'Circa's Peepshow', 4/07/2018; a review.

Last night, I was thrilled to see 'Circa's Peepshow' on the Southbank. I'd heard this was the hottest circus to land in the Underbelly in 2018...so it's safe to say my expectations were high.

I wasn't disappointed. This show was freaky and trippy and sexy, all at once!

Over a million people have experienced the sensation that is Circa . . . "the rockstars of the circus world" (The List). Now they are delighted to present for your pleasure their latest masterpiece – Peepshow.

Peepshow turns cabaret on its head, literally.
Join Circa as they embark on a seductive dance through the hall of mirrors that is your imagination, Peepshow lurches from the thrillingly acrobatic to the comically playful. Expect teetering towers of balanced bodies, extreme bending and devilishly precarious aerials.
Peepshow combines some of the finest acrobatic talent on the planet under the direction of circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz to create a playfully exhilarating ride into the beautifully bizarre recesses of your mind.
Come to Circa’s Peepshow and see the world from the other side of the mirror...

I was wowed by the tricks; the balances, the aerial movement and the intense trust each performer placed in one another throughout the show. The characters portrayed were strong, funny, and quite crazy.

I think one of my favourite parts of the show would be the surprise audience participation...I won't say any more. I also loved/was freaked out by the rope-in-mouth sequence. That was unbelievable.

I also really enjoyed the performance space; having been to several circus productions at the Underbelly this year (and Hal Cruttenden's comedy night in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity the night before this show!), I have found The Belly theatre to be a little too...cavernous? I feel circus shows are best when performed in a properly circus-esque room, such as the 'second' theatre just behind the big Belly. The rickety steampunk structure and walls lined with mirrors really added to the atmosphere. The pounding music was also a brilliant component, as were the pulsing lights!

This sexy show will be running at the Underbelly until the 18th of August.
Get your tickets now, at From the Box Office!
Warning: contains flashing lights.
(They're always cheaper than the actual Underbelly website...shhh!)

I was lucky enough to see a circus recently too, Cirque Berserk, and it blew my mind. The strength! Eeek!
